Whitewater Rafting Thousand of people have enjoyed their close encounters with the unforgettable magic of rivers, of green river banks, sheer canyons and crystal clear depths. Rivers in the continental part of the country are flanked by dense forests and by mountains, while those closer to the sea - boast broad green banks and deep and shady mysterious canyons. Watermills, wooden bridges, churches and monasteries all bear witness to the long standing tradition of a life with the river. The banks of the deepest and most thrilling canyons are reached only by the sun and by often barely negotiable trails. The best time for kayaking adventures on the rivers Dobra, Mreznica, Kupa, Korana, Cetina, Krupa and Zrmanja are in the spring and early summer. The rivers flow copiously, waterfalls are numerous and the grade of difficulty of the waters ranges from III to IV.

Sea Kayaking The clear and warm sea, countless small coves and beaches make sea kayaking in the Adriatic by far the best in Europe. On your voyages you will be accompanied by small schools of fish and encounters with tunas and dolphins are by no means rare. Traveling by kayak, you get to see places that a yachtsman could never reach – hidden bays with sand, pebble or rocky beaches, shallow lagoons and caves. From the Brijuni Archipelago in the north to the Elafiti islands and the island of Mljet in the south, island groups provide an ideal venue for an island-hopping adventure – miles of paddling and countless landings. Distances between the islands are not long and with a kayak you can easily enter the river mouths (Mirna, Zrmanja, Cetina, Neretva).

Hiking & Trekking Countless footpaths and trekking trails beckon you to venture into beauty and discover the magic of nature – in the mountains, river valleys and canyons, through plains and dense forests, to rock- bound islands and lush green hills. Within this most diverse of landscapes hikers can reach even the most remote areas strewn between sea level and the highest peak of Dinara (1831m): in nature parks, nature reserves, national parks and other areas with particular attractions from the aspect of adventure. The choice of mountains is quite long: Papuk, Krndija, Medvednica, Žumberak in Northern Croatia; mountains of Gorski Kotar such as Risnjak, Snježnik, Bjelolasica, Samarske i Bijele Stijene; Učka i Ćićarija in Istria and Kvarner Regions; mid Adriatic with Velebit Mountain; and Mosor, Biokovo and Dinara Mountains in the south. Don’t forget beautiful island mountains: Vidova Gora on Brač Island, Osorčica on Island of Mali Lošinj, Kamenjak on Rab Island.

Windsurfing There are dozens of attractive destinations along the Croatian coastline that are truly perfect for Wind Surfing – from Istria to islands of Cres, Lošinj, Rab or the famous windsurfing destination – Bol on Brač Island. Climbing Alpinists and freestyle climbers will find an exceptional climbing environment in both continental and coastal regions, with some climbing sites being located quite close to towns and popular holiday resorts. Routes ranging from several meters long for beginners, to several hundred meters for experts, are open to climbing enthusiasts on the rocks of Paklenica, Velebit, Ucka, Dinara, Mosor Biokovo and others. Some of the premiere climbing sites are located on the islands of Brac, Vis and Mljet and the best known climbing destinations in the continental parts of the country are on the mountains of Klek, Papuk, Kalnik, on Samarske Stijene and Bijele Stijene. Croatia also abounds in in caves and holes of which there are more than 850 and they are to be found on the mainland, on islands by rivers, on the sea bed and in the mountains.
